Don't sell puppies in a pandemic!

The global outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) is impacting every one of us. Most of us are following government guidance to stay home as much as possible and avoid spreading the awful virus.

And yet, despite all warnings, puppy farmers and some dog breeders are still trying to profiteer! Adverts are still being placed on well-known websites selling puppies! This must be stopped during the pandemic.

Naturewatch Foundation has campaigned against cruel puppy farming for many years:

  • We’ve worked closely with policy-makers and like-minded animal lovers to bring in new laws to strengthen dog breeding rules.
  • Our puppy farming hotline, supported by covert online investigations, has investigated hundreds of reports of puppy farmers, providing evidence to local councils and law enforcement.
  • Our public awareness campaigns have offered guidance to people wanting to buy a dog including meeting the breeder in person at the place where the puppy was bred, meeting the puppy and its mother in advance of purchase and using a puppy contract.

As a result of the current unfolding pandemic, Naturewatch Foundation has written to three well known websites that are still hosting adverts for puppies – Gumtree, Pets4Homes and Preloved.

In the light of the government advice regarding social distancing, we have asked the websites to temporarily stop hosting all adverts for puppies and kittens during the pandemic.

Please follow us on social media for updates on this campaign - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.

Puppy farmers use websites to sell puppies. A puppy farmer won’t tell unsuspected buyers that they are operating little more than ‘puppy factories’, churning out puppies without care for the breeding dogs or health of the puppies. They just want your money.

During the Coronavirus (COVID-19) our lives are restricted. Everyone’s actions help to reduce the transmission of coronavirus in our communities and save lives.

Join our campaign and ask the websites Gumtree, Pets4Homes and Preloved not to host adverts for puppies or kittens.
